Make Colored Glowing Bubbles

You can make glowing bubbles glow in different colors! (Anne Helmenstine)
If you've been following my projects, you already know how to make glowing bubbles, but did you know you can customize the color that they glow? Glowing bubbles are made my mixing bubble solution or dishwashing liquid with a chemical that either glows in the dark or else glows under a black light. While phosphorescent and luminescent chemicals like glowing paint and glowsticks actually glow in the dark, even these bubbles look much brighter if they have a little help from the ultraviolet in a black light, so if you have a black light, this is the perfect time to use it. To color your bubbles, mix bubble solution or detergent with the following chemicals: blue - tonic water (quinine) - needs black light, keeps glowing forever yellow - ink from a yellow highlighter pen - needs black light, keeps glowing forever any color - craft glow paint - glows on its own, can be recharged with light any color - chemicals from inside a glow stick - glows on its own, but only lasts 10-20 minutes greenish yellow - powdered zinc sulfide - glows on its own, needs recharged with light Some other colors of highlighters work too, but you need to check them under a black light to be sure. Highlighter ink produces the brightest bubbles. Mixing chemicals from this list typically doesn't help, but feel free to experiment.
